Isabel Benjumea, Member of the European Parliament
Born in Madrid in 1982, Isabel has a degree in Law and International Relations from the Universidad Pontificia de Comillas of Madrid (ICADE).
She spent the first years of her professional career in Washington DC, where she worked at the World Bank, implementing transparency and accountability programmes for local governments in Latin America.
In 2011, after returning to Spain and spending one year in the International Relations Department of the FAES think-tank, she decided to undertake her first business project in the tourism sector, Greatness, which she ran until 2017. In December 2018, she became Deputy Chief of Staff of the President of the Spanish People's Party (PP) Pablo Casado. She left this position when she was elected as a Member of the European Parliament in May 2019.
In this IX legislature, she is the Vice-Chair of the Committee on Regional Development. She is also a Member of the Committee on Economic and Monetary Affairs, a Member of the SME Intergroup and a Member of the URBAN Intergroup. Furthermore, she is a Member of the Delegation to the EU-Ukraine Parliamentary Association Committee and of the Delegation to the Euronest Parliamentary Assembly. She is also a Substitute Member of the Committee on Culture and Education, the Delegation for relations with Japan and the Delegation to the Euro-Latin American Parliamentary Assembly.
Isabel Benjumea is co-Founder of the Floridablanca Network, a Spanish liberal think-tank to which she has made numerous contributions and has written many articles about for national media. Currently, she teaches Entrepreneurial Thinking as part of the Degree of Entrepreneurship at the Francisco Marroquín University in Madrid.
Mark Branson, CEO of the Swiss Financial Market Supervisory Authority
Mark Branson (1968) studied Mathematics and Management Studies (M.A.) at Trinity College, Cambridge. He also obtained a Master’s degree in Operational Research (M.Sc.) from the University of Lancaster. Mark Branson is a British citizen.
After his successful graduation in England, Mark Branson started his professional career at Coopers & Lybrand Management Consultancy Services. Three years later, he moved to Credit Suisse in London where, two years after joining the bank, he led a customer support department. In 1997, Mark Branson took a further step in his professional career by joining the former SBC Warburg. Shortly afterwards, he was transferred to the head office in Zurich, where he assumed responsibility for the Business and Logistics Strategy unit of the Corporate Center’s Strategic Analysis group. He was subsequently ap-pointed Head of Investor Relations. In 2001, he was promoted to the post of group-wide Head of Communications, with management responsibility for all aspects of communication and branding. Mark Branson held this post for five years, before being made CEO of UBS Securities Japan Ltd in 2006 as part of a targeted rotation of roles. During his time there, Mark Branson was responsible for investment banking, securities activities, asset management and wealth management in Japan. In February 2008, Mark Branson was then appointed CFO of the Wealth Management and Swiss Bank business division in Zurich where he was in charge of finance, risk control, compliance, strategy de-velopment and treasury management.
Mark Branson took up the post of Head of Banks division at FINMA in Bern on 1 January 2010 and was appointed Deputy CEO on 1 February 2013. He has been appointed Chief Executive Officer of FINMA as of 1 April 2014.
José Manuel Campa, Chair of the European Banking Authority
After studying law and economics at the University of Oviedo and earning his PhD in economics from Harvard University, Mr. Campa taught finance at New York University and the IESE Business School and consulted for a number of international organisations including the World Bank, the IMF, the Bank for International Settlements and the European Commission.
He then served as the 10th Secretary of State for Economy of the Spanish government and was most recently Director of Regulatory affairs of the Santander Bank.
Rebecca Christie, Visiting Fellow, Bruegel
Rebecca Christie is an independent writer and policy analyst based in Belgium. Currently a Visiting Fellow at Bruegel, the Brussels-based think tank, she contributes to the BBC and Euronews and has recently authored a policy paper on Brexit with Thomas Wieser. She served as lead author of Safeguarding the Euro in Times of Crisis: The Inside Story of the European Stability Mechanism. Prior to that, she was a senior economics and politics correspondent at Bloomberg News, including five years in Brussels. From 1999 to 2011, she was a Washington reporter for publications including the Financial Times, Dow Jones/The Wall Street Journal and Bloomberg News.
Paulina Dejmek Hack, Director for General Affairs, DG FISMA at the European Commission
Paulina Dejmek Hack is Director for General Affairs at the European Commission’s Directorate General for Financial Services, Financial Stability and Capital Markets Union (FISMA).
Paulina joined the European Commission in 2004, after having worked in a law firm in Frankfurt am Main and at the EFTA Surveillance Authority in Brussels where she was responsible for financial services, capital movements and company law.
After a couple of years in the unit for insurance and pensions in DG MARKT, Paulina joined the Legal Service of the Commission in 2007, providing legal advice on financial services and financial market matters. During the Swedish EU Presidency in 2009, Paulina was seconded to the Swedish Permanent Representation as financial attaché.
Paulina joined the private office of Commissioner Michel Barnier, subsequently Vice-President of the European Commission, in 2010. She was the Deputy Head of Cabinet between February and October 2014.
Between November 2014 and November 2019, Paulina was an economic adviser and Director for Coordination and Administration (from June 2019) to the then European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker.
From December 2019 and until 15 February 2021, Paulina was Director for strategy in the European Commission’s Task Force for relations with the United Kingdom and directly involved in the negotiations between the European Union and the United Kingdom.
Paulina is a Swedish and Czech citizen, she holds a Master of Laws degree from the University of Lund, Sweden, and a doctorate degree from the University of Heidelberg, Germany.
Dr. Peter Derendinger, SFC Chairman, & Chairman of the Board of Directors, Credit Suisse (Schweiz) AG
Peter Derendinger is the Chairman of the Board of Directors of Credit Suisse (Schweiz) AG since March 2019. In 2004 he founded Alpha Associates Ltd., a Zurich-based independent private equity, private debt and infrastructure management and advisory firm, of which he is the CEO. He is an Attorney-at-law and has a Master´s Degree and PhD in Law from the University of Fribourg as well as a Master of Laws LL.M. from Northwestern University School of Law of Chicago. Dr. Peter Derendinger started his career as Head of Legal and Tax Continental Europe at Credit Suisse First Boston and he became General Counsel of the Credit Suisse Group in 1994. In 2000 he became Member of the Executive Board of Credit Suisse Private Banking, CFO and Head Corporate Center. He holds mandates as a professional board member with various companies and foundations in Switzerland. Peter Derendinger is a Swiss citizen.
Lukas Gähwiler, Chairman of the Board of Directors, UBS Switzerland AG
Lukas Gähwiler was appointed in 2017 as Chairman of the Board of Directors, UBS Switzerland AG. Prior to that, he was a member of the Group Executive Board of UBS Group AG and served as President UBS Switzerland for more than six years. In this role, he was responsible for all businesses – Personal Banking, Wealth Management, Corporate and Institutional Clients, Investment Banking and Asset Management – in UBS's home market. Prior to this, he worked in various senior front office positions at Credit Suisse in Switzerland and North America for twenty years, seven of which as Chief Risk Officer for Corporate and Private Banking. Mr. Gähwiler earned a Bachelor’s degree in business administration from the University of Applied Sciences in St. Gallen. Furthermore, he completed an MBA program in Corporate Finance at the International Bankers School in New York as well as the Advanced Management Program at Harvard Business School.
Roberto Gualtieri, Former Italian Minister of Economy and Finance
Roberto Gualtieri is an Italian historian, academic and politician, elected to the Chamber of Deputies. He served as Minister of Economy and Finances in the government of Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte from September 2019 to February 2021. From 2009 to 2019, he was previously a member of the European Parliament, where he chaired the Economic and Monetary Affairs Committee from 2014 until 2019.
Kerstin af Jochnick, Member of the Supervisory Board of the Single Supervisory Mechanism
Kerstin af Jochnick has been an ECB representative to the Supervisory Board since 1 October 2019.
Prior to this she was First Deputy Governor of Sveriges Riksbank, a position she had held since 2012. In that role, she was also an alternate member of the General Council of the European Central Bank from 2015 to 2019. She was also a member of the European Systemic Risk Board from 2015 to 2018.
From 2009 to 2011 Ms af Jochnick was Managing Director of the Swedish Bankers’ Association and from 2008 to 2009 she was Chair of the Committee of European Banking Supervisors.
From 1995 to 2007 she was Head of Banking Supervision at Finansinspektionen, the Swedish Financial Supervisory Authority, where she had also worked as a financial analyst from 1991 to 1995.
Her other past roles have included Member of the Board of the Danish Financial Supervisory Authority (2014-18), Member of the IIF Advisory Group on Supervision (2010-11) and Member of the Basel Committee on Banking Supervision (2003-09 and 2013-19).
Elke König, Chair of the Single Resolution Board
Dr Elke König is Chair of the SRB, responsible for the management of the organisation, the work of the Board, the budget, all staff and the Executive and Plenary sessions of the Board. The Corporate Secretariat, the Strategy, International Relations and Communications Unit and the Internal Audit function report directly to her.
She was President of the German Federal Financial Supervisory Authority (Bundesanstalt für Finanzdienstleistungsaufsicht (BaFin) from 2012 until 2015. After qualifying in business administration and obtaining a doctorate, Dr König spent many years working for companies in the financial and insurance sector. From 1980 to 1990, she worked for KPMG Deutsche Treuhandgesellschaft in Cologne, auditing and advising insurance undertakings, from 1986 as a holder of a special statutory authority (Prokuristin) and from 1988 as a director and partner. From 1990 to 2002, Dr König was a member of the senior management of the Munich Re Group (Head of Accounting); she then moved to Hannover Rückversicherung AG as Chief Financial Officer. From 2010 to the end of 2011, Dr König was a member of the International Accounting Standards Board (IASB) in London. Dr König was also a representative of the Supervisory Board of the Single Supervisory Mechanism.
Steven Maijoor, Chair of the European Securities and Markets Authority (ESMA)
Steven Maijoor has been the Chair of the European Securities and Markets Authority (ESMA) since taking up office 1 April 2011. He is the first chair of the authority and is currently serving his second five-year term. He is responsible for representing the Authority as well as chairing ESMA’s Board of Supervisors and the Management Board. The role of the Board of Supervisors is to give strategic guidance to ESMA and make all main regulatory and supervisory decisions. The Management Board's purpose is to ensure that the Authority carries out its mission and performs its tasks.
Prior to taking up this role, Steven was Managing Director at the AFM, the Dutch financial markets regulator, where he was responsible for capital market supervision, including financial reporting and auditing, prospectuses, public offerings, and the supervision of the integrity of financial markets. During his term, the scope of activities of the AFM vastly expanded and he was responsible for building and implementing supervision in the capital market area. In his regulatory role at the AFM, Steven has held a number of international positions, including the Chairmanship of IFIAR (International Forum of Independent Audit Regulators).
Before joining the regulatory world, Steven was the Dean of the School of Business and Economics at Maastricht University, and had pursued a long career in academia which included a variety of positions at Maastricht University and the University of Southern California.
He holds a PhD in Business Economics from Maastricht University, was a research student at the London School of Economics, and has a master in Business Economics from the University of Groningen.
Sabine Mauderer, Chair of NGFS' "Scaling-up green finance" workstream, Executive Board Member of Deutsche Bundesbank
Dr. Sabine Mauderer has been Member of the Executive Board of the Deutsche Bundesbank since September 2018. She is responsible for the Directorates Markets and Human Resources. Additionally she is a member of the Exchange Experts Commission, the Central Capital Market Committee, and the Steering Committee of the “Central banks and Supervisors Network for Greening the Financial System (NGFS)”. Prior to her current responsibilities she held several positions at the KfW Banking group, e.g. Head of Banking Sector Restructuring and Head of Auditing, Risk Management, IT and Major Projects. Before that she worked as a senior adviser at the Federal Ministry of Finance. She was born in Schleswig in 1970. Sabine Mauderer graduated in law, holds a PhD by the Osnabrück University and an Executive MBA by the ESSEC & Mannheim Business School.
Ueli Maurer, Swiss Federal Councillor and Head of the Federal Department of Finance
Ulrich "Ueli" Maurer is a Swiss politician who served as President of the Swiss Confederation in 2013 and 2019 and as Vice President of the Swiss Confederation in 2012 and 2018.
Chair of the Swiss People's Party (SVP/UDC) from 1996 to 2008, he has been a Member of the Swiss Federal Council since 2009.
Mr Maurer has served as Head of the Federal Department of Finance since 2016. He was previously the Head of the Federal Department of Defence, Civil Protection and Sports (2009–2015).
Carolyn Rogers, Secretary General, Basel Committee for Banking Supervision
Ms. Rogers was appointed to the Secretary General role for the Basel Committee for Banking Supervision in March of 2019 and took up her duties in August of 2019. In this capacity she also serves as the Chair of the of the Committee's Policy Development Group. She has 20 years of executive management experience in the financial services industry, having worked in both the public and the private sector. Prior to joining the Committee Ms Rogers was the Assistant Superintendent of Regulation at the Office of the Superintendent of Financial Institutions (OSFI) in Canada and served as OSFI's representative on the Basel
Urs Rohner, Chairman of the Board of Credit Suisse Group
Urs Rohner has been Chairman of the Board of Directors of Credit Suisse Group AG since 2011. He was Vice-Chair of the Board from 2009 to 2011, after having served as a member of the Executive Board between 2004 and 2009 as Chief Operating Officer and Group General Counsel.
Prior to joining Credit Suisse, he was Chairman of the Executive Board and CEO of ProSiebenSat.1 Media AG, and before he was partner of the Swiss law firm Lenz & Staehelin and an attorney of Sullivan & Cromwell. Urs Rohner also sits on the Board of Directors of GlaxoSmithKline plc. In addition, he serves as a member on the boards of various Swiss and international business associations.
Daniela Stoffel, State Secretary for International Finance, Swiss Federal Department of Finance
Daniela Stoffel (born in 1968) took up her role as State Secretary for International Finance at the Federal Department of Finance (FDF) on 1 March 2019.
In 1998, Daniela Stoffel entered the diplomatic service of the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs (FDFA). In 2005, she took over as Head of Public Relations and Culture at the Swiss Embassy in Washington D.C. and in August 2009 she moved to the Swiss Embassy in Berlin as Head of Economic and Financial Affairs. There she was appointed Deputy Head of Mission in 2012. In 2015, Daniela Stoffel assumed a staff function in the General Secretariat of the OECD in Paris.
From 2015, Daniela Stoffel was on detachment to SIF with the title of Ambassador, latterly as Head of Political Staff. From 2016, she was also the Diplomatic Advisor to the Head of the Federal Department of Finance (FDF). In these functions, Daniela Stoffel was involved in safeguarding and dealing with current financial policy issues and challenges and in the corresponding international negotiations and contacts.
Daniela Stoffel graduated from the University of Zurich in 1992 with a degree in Philosophy, Economics and German Linguistics. Accompanying her work as a University Assistant at the Institute of Philosophy of the University of Zurich, she wrote her thesis in 1996. She is a citizen of Winterthur, in the canton of Zurich, and is the mother of an adult daughter.
Axel A. Weber, Chairman of the Board, UBS Group AG
Axel A. Weber has been Chairman of the Board of Directors of UBS since 2012. He is Chairman of the BoD of both UBS AG and UBS Group AG. He is chairman of the Institute of International Finance, a board member of the Swiss Bankers Association and a member of the Group of Thirty, the International Monetary Conference as well as the Trilateral Commission, among others.
Mr. Weber was president of the German Bundesbank between 2004 and 2011, during which time he also served as a member of the Governing Council of the European Central Bank, a member of the Board of Directors of the Bank for International Settlements, German governor of the International Monetary Fund and as a member of the G7 and G20 Ministers and Governors.
He was a member of the steering committees of the European Systemic Risk Board in 2011 and the Financial Stability Board from 2010 to 2011.
Mr. Weber's academic career includes professorships at the Universities of Cologne, Frankfurt / Main, Bonn and Chicago. He holds a PhD in economics from the University of Siegen, where he also received his habilitation. He graduated with a master’s degree in economics at the University of Konstanz and holds honorary doctorates from the universities of Duisburg-Essen and Konstanz.
David Wright, Chairman, EUROFI
After graduating from Worcester College, Oxford in 1974 in politics, economics and philosophy (PPE) David has worked for nearly 34 years in the European Commission from 1977- 2011. He held a variety of posts including at the beginning of his career responsibility for oil and gas data in the Statistical Office, Luxembourg (1977-1981) during the second oil crisis; energy policy coordination and modelling in the Directorate General for Energy, Brussels (1982-1987); and then industrial trade policy negotiations during the Uruguay multilateral trade round (1987-1989). From 1989-1992 he was a member of President Delors' "Think Tank" called the "Cellule de Prospectives" where he worked on industrial policy and wrote the first Commission document on sustainable development. In this period he co-authored a book with Professor Alexis Jacquemin on the post-1992 EU political and economic agenda called "Shaping factors, shaping actors".
From 1993-1994 he was a member of Sir Leon Brittans' Cabinet and worked on various aspects of trade and industrial policy, including completion of the Uruguay Round in 1994. In 1995 he became an Adviser to President Jacques Santer in his Cabinet – covering competitiveness, industrial and telecom policies, political relations with the UK and Ireland, financial services, risk capital and various other trade and foreign policy briefs. From March 2000 – October 2010 he was first Director, then Deputy Director-General for securities and financial markets, then for all financial services policy in DG Internal Market and Services. He helped design and drive forward the Financial Services Action Plans to integrate the EU's capital and financial services markets. He was the rapporteur for both the Lamfalussy (2000/1) and De LaRosière Committees (2008/9), chaired the Securities and Banking Committees and represented the Commission in the Financial Services Committee and in various FSB/G20 fora. He also played a leading role in the EU-US financial markets dialogue in this period. He was the EU Visiting Fellow at St Antony's College, Oxford until July 2011 and was a Member of the European Commission's Task force on Greece until the end of January 2012. David Wright’s appointment as Secretary General of the International Organization of Securities Commissions (IOSCO) commenced on 15 March 2012. David Wright left IOSCO in March 2016 and is now the Chairman of EUROFI, Paris, a partner of Flint-Global, London and a public interest Director of the Bombay Stock Exchange, India.
